For NASCAR fans, a great family vacation can be visiting one of America's great NASCAR attractions, such as racetracks, driving schools, NASCAR shops and racing museums.

Here are the top NASCAR destinations, attractions, interactive museums, driving schools and general family-friendly auto racing themed vacation destinations:

  1. Charlotte - This is the world's Mecca of Nascar auto racing. Not only can you visit Lowe's Motor Speedway, where you can tour area's of the racetrack not open to the public during races and explore their extensive racing gift shop. Better yet, wander the region to visit some of the NASCAR racing shops, most of which are within a few minutes' drive of Charlotte. There are also several driving schools, including the popular Richard Petty Driving Experience. Nearby Mooresville, a.k.a. Race City USA, has several shops and the Auto Racing Hall of Fame.
  2. Daytona - This great beach town is not just home to the legendary Daytona International Speedway. It also features the Richard Petty Driving Experience, Best of all, you can visit Daytona USA, dubbed the Offical Attraction of NASCAR. You can virtually pilot a stock racing car, design your own race car, or even test your pit crew skills. Very cool stuff for all ages. A great bonus is its location, just about an hour from Disneyworld, making it even more attractive for traveling families.
  3. Talladega - Talladega Superspeedway allows visitors to ride a tour on the tracks, or visit the extensive museum on-site to see real-life stock race cars. It is also close to Birmingham, a charming small Alabama city and a fine family destination.
  4. Indianapolis - Who could resist a chance to see the famous bricks of the Brickyard, Indianapolis Motor Speedway? You can do just that by bus tour (although you aren't allowed to get out and touch them, which apparently is a frequent request). It's worth a visit, even just to peruse the vast 96,000-square-foot Hall of Fame Museum devoted to auto racing. Indianapolis itself is also a very family-friendly destination and compact city with one of the country's better Children's Museums.
