A 175,000-gallon ocean display filled with dozens of sea creatures, as well as Legoland's signature little-brick sculptures, are highlights at Sea Life Aquarium.

Families visiting Carlsbad, California, have a new attraction to entertain and enthrall the kids: Sea Life Aquarium at Legoland California Resort. The aquarium features a 35-foot-long acrylic tunnel that guests walk through, so you feel as if you are engulfed by ocean life - without getting wet!

Sea Life Aquarium Exhibits

The 175,000-gallon aquarium focuses on living creatures that can be found in the local California waters. Through interactive games, quizzes and play zones, kids can take a journey from the high-alpine Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, to the San Francisco Harbor and into the Pacific Ocean along the state's shoreline.

Young visitors can also get up-close-and-personal with a myriad of sea life at a small "touch pool," where naturalists supervise as children touch coral, starfish and more. Other exhibits include the "Lost City of Atlantis" and a sunken shipwreck.

Of course, the signature Lego bricks feature prominently at the aquarium. More than 72 Lego models made of tens of thousands of bricks are on display here, including a seven-foot-long Lego submarine and diver.

Kids can get creative, too, by helping to build a colorful on-site coral reef out of Lego bricks.

Sea Life Aquarium in Carlsbad marks the company's debut in the North America market. Sea Life operates dozens of other centers in Spain, France, Great Britain and other locations throughout Europe.

If You Go to Sea Life Aquarium at Legoland California

Admission to the Sea Life Aquarium is $19.95 for adults, $11.95 for children. Guests can also buy value-priced "park hopper" tickets that combine one- or two-day passes to both Sea Life Aquarium and adjacent Legoland theme park, with its 128 acres of shows, rides and Lego-building opportunities.

Ocean Journey Cafe is located on the second floor of the Sea Life Aquarium. The restaurant is family friendly, featuring fresh food made from scratch from natural ingredients - most of which are grown, ranched or produced in California.

Two resorts are adjacent to the Legoland resort; both have private entrances to the park. Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa s a new property that opened in spring 2008, with an outdoor pool, on-site spa, fitness center and sophisticated grill restaurant. Grand Pacific Palisades Resort has an Olympic-size pool, hot tubs, fitness center, spa and game room for the kids. Check the Legoland California website for "Bed & Brick" vacation packages.

This place was just a waste of waiting in line, and money. Want your kids to have a better educational experience or just a good experience plain and simple. Don't take them here. You will get more value for your money at Birch Aquarium or even Sea World.
