The Saskatoon Farm is a fun family road trip any time of the year. Lunch in the café, browse the gift shop and visit the garden center filled with plants and animals.
Enjoy a day trip from Calgary to the family friendly destination of The Saskatoon Farm. It's designed to resemble an old Western town from the outside. Inside both children and adults can delight in fresh baked treats and the many treasures displayed throughout the barn. The farm itself includes not only the berry orchard and massive garden center but also a herd of buffalo and assorted adorable animals for the kids to discover. Located on the Highwood River this area offers an ideal view of the sprawling farmlands of rural Alberta. Saskatoon Berry Picking During the Summer Months The Saskatoon Farm’s “U-PICK” program is a summertime favourite and usually starts in late July or early August depending on the weather. The cost is $14.00 for each 4-litre pail, which is supplied by the farm. Of course, if hand-picking berries does not sound like a fun day in the Alberta sun, sometimes there will be a small selection of fresh, already picked Saskatoon berries for $20.00 a pail. Or opt for the frozen berries from last year’s crop which are available all year round. When picking berries don’t forget:
Cute and Quaint Café in the Calgary AreaThe pounded tin ceilings and spectacular woodwork inside this small café are a definite must-see when visiting, even if there isn’t time for a snack. The menu is simple. Homemade sandwiches and salads are delicious and the Dutch waffle with Saskatoon berry syrup looks enticing as well. The best part is that all of the fresh syrup, salad dressing and jam used in the restaurant is available to take home, along with fresh pies and tarts for the freezer. Take out food is also available for picnics or to have in the car for the journey home.
